El Paso, TX (KDBC) — El Paso Police are investigating a rollover crash in El Paso's Lower Valley on Saturday that sent a 2-year-old and her mother to area hospitals.
Investigators say that 32-year-old Bernice Alonso was driving a 2004 red Chevrolet Cavalier east in the 9700 block of Socorro Rd. on Saturday afternoon around 7:33 p.m. when she lost control of her car, causing it to veer off of the road and roll over several times.
Alonso's passenger, 2-year-old Jazline Saldana was ejected from the car and sustained head trauma. Saldana was taken to University Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.
Alonso also sustained a head injury in the crash and was transported to Del Sol Medical Center for treatment.
Special Traffic Investigators believe that speed, distracted driving, and alcohol are all factors in the crash. Police did not say whether the 2-year-old was properly restrained in a child safety seat at the time of the crash.
EPPD says the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending against Alonso.
