Thursday, March 28, 2013 - 5:57pm

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — El Paso Sector U.S. Border Patrol Agents said they arrested a Peruvian illegal immigrant yesterday wanted for sex offenses out of Virginia.

U.S. Border Patrol Agents assigned to the traffic checkpoint on I-10 west of Las Cruces, New Mexico, were conducting immigration inspections of passengers on a westbound Greyhound bus. During the inspection agents said they encountered Gerson Pier Jara Gonzalez, a 25-year-old Peruvian citizen, who was traveling to Long Beach, Calif.

Agents soon discovered that Gonzalez was wanted in Virginia, for charges stemming from criminal sex offenses. The information revealed that Gonzalez had an active warrant on two counts of “Aggravated Sexual Battery on a Minor.”

Gonzalez was taken into custody and turned over to the New Mexico State Police pending extradition to Virginia.
