Airway Boulevard is getting lined with green, antique-style decorative street lights between Montana Avenue and Airport Road.
The City of El Paso Department of Transportation is wrapping up a project to install 64 energy-efficient ornamental street lights on Airway. The approximate $500,000 illumination project was funded by the El Paso International Airport (EPIA) for improvements to Airway. It should be completed by the end of the month.
The street lights are equipped with LED lamps that burn more efficiently than the mercury-vapor lights they are replacing. The project allows EPDoT to provide Airway with a modern energy efficient lighting system with a nostalgic appearance. Airway from Montana to Gateway Boulevard West already has decorative street lights.
The street light replacement project also provides for the enhanced illumination of the bronze equestrian statue at the entrance of the El Paso International Airport.
