EL PASO — El Paso County Sheriff's deputies arrested attorney Stuart Leeds around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, the morning following his contempt of court conviction.

Wednesday, Leeds was sentenced to 30 days in jail after being found guilty of contempt of court for a second time.

According to County records, Leeds spent a total 41 minutes confined in the El Paso County Jail Thursday, after posting his $25,000 bond.

It all stemmed from a nepotism trial last year when attorneys Stuart Leeds and Theresa Caballero were both charged with contempt of court. Both were found guilty last August.

The pair accepted a fine of $1,000 and six months probation as part of a plea deal, but the judge rejected the punishment saying it wasn't enough.

Leeds and Caballero then filed a motion to have the judge removed from the case, saying he was prejudiced against them.

The Supreme Court agreed, and a new judge was appointed. Leed's new conviction and sentence Wednesdau will be automatically appealed.

Caballero was also found guilty of the same charge last month, but is still awaiting sentencing.
