The Better Business Bureau is offering tips for parents to help find a safe summer camp for their children.

The BBB advises parents to do some research.

Always visit the camp before submitting your deposit and ask about safety procedures.

Ask about fees and payment deadlines.

Are medical facilities adequate?

Are family visits or other communications with campers allowed?

Are references from parents of repeat campers available? Ask the parents about their child's experience and why they recommend the camp.

Ask how the staff is trained and if background checks are made for employees.

What are the safety rules and how are they enforced?

Look for camps that are certified by the American Camp Association
