El Paso, TX (KDBC) — Desert Downs is a safe place for families to get out and challenge themselves physically.
That all changed Thursday when vandals struck and caused what the BMX track manager said is about $30,000 in damage.
Dads spent their day cleaning at Desert Downs Friday
"We're not real sure if they were targeting one person in particular of just kind of the track in general," said Track Director, Bryan O'Leary.
Racial epithets in spray paint are everywhere.
Priceless trophies, mirrors, windows are all destroyed.
"They dumped four fire extinguishers inside it so we just had the extinguisher powder all over it," O'Leary said.
"They didn't understand how somebody could do that to a place they call home," said father Shawn Kemp about how his children reacted to the vandalism.
Saturday Desert Downs will hold a BMX race. They're hoping community members and businesses will band with them to raise the money to rebuild the place they believe has brought so much joy to children.
The public is invited to show up at 8801 Railroad in Northeast El Paso at about 11:15 Satuday morning.
