Las Cruces, NM (KDBC) — El Paso Border Patrol Agents were able to apprehend two wanted individuals in separate stops Monday. One of the men who was found crossing into the U.S. illegally was found to be a convicted sex offender from Denver, Colorado.
Tuesday morning, U.S. Border Patrol agents responded to an area near Sunland Park, NM where they found two men allegedly trying to enter the U.S. illegally from Mexico. Agents were able to place both of them under arrest and transported them to the station for further processing. While at the station, agents were able to identify one of the men as 57-year-old Juan Santa Cruz, a Mexican citizen.
Cruz was previously a Lawfully Admitted Resident Alien (LAPR) of the United States, but had been convicted of Sexual Assault of a Child in Denver Colorado. After the conviction, Cruz had been removed from the U.S. and had his status as a LARP revoked.
Cruz, was turned over to the Otero County Prison Facility, pending prosecution. The man Cruz was traveling with is also being processed for criminal prosecution and removal from the U.S.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, Border Patrol Agents from Las Cruces, NM working the Border Patrol checkpoint on I-25 were able to apprehend a man traveling through the checkpoint who was wanted on a criminal warrant from Raton, NM. Agents were able to confirm that 35-year-old Michael J. Ledoux was wanted on an outstanding warrant, and he was taken into custody and later turned over to the New Mexico State Police. The driver of the car Ledoux was traveling in was released without incident.
