El Paso, Texas (KDBC) — One local congressman is speaking out about security in schools and the need to keep our kids safe.
Congressman Pete Gallego, Representative of District 23, says this week's stabbing rampage at a high school in Pennsylvania is just latest of several acts of violence committed at U.S. Schools.
He says it highlights the growing need for more bully prevention programs and other measures. The Democrat also supports arming teachers with weapons in some schools, but says that's a decision that should be made on a district by district basis.
"I can't imagine getting that phone call and completely freaking out about is my son ok, so everything that can be done to make our kids safe, I can think of no worse pain for a parent," said Gallego.
Twenty-one students were stabbed at the high school near Pittsburgh. No one was killed.
