City of El Paso & EPPD: Crime decreases in 2013

The City of El Paso and the El Paso Police Department are reporting significant decreases in murders, auto thefts, and assaults compared to this time last year.
As of September 21, 2013 there have been 8 recorded murders in El Paso compared to 21 during the same time period in 2012. This represents a 62% decrease in murders, year-to-date. There have been 522 reported auto thefts through September 21, 2013 compared to 866 during this same time period in 2012. This is a 40% decrease in auto thefts, year-to-date.
The Central and Westside areas of town each posted 50% decreases in auto thefts for 2013 compared to 2012.  Assaults are down 11% with 7,022 being reported through September 21, 2013 compared to 7,873 reported during this time period in 2012.
