"Closure" coming in EPISD Scandal, Butler says

Saturday, January 19, 2013 - 12:43am

El Paso Independent School District leaders are vowing some "closure" in the coming month.
That from interim Superintendent Vernon Butler Friday at the school board meeting.

Butler couldn't specify in what form that closure would come.

One of Texas Education Agency Monitor Judy Castleberry's latest reports asks that some employees in the central office reapply for their jobs, but Butler couldn't say exactly which employees she was referring to.

He does say the Weaver firm, charged with the district's forensic audit, may begin to veer their investigation away from Bowie High School, where the scheme began; possibly affecting all campuses in the district.

"First of all, we only talked about Bowie High School. But we do know we could have other areas of concern, and we certainly are looking into other areas."

Another decision is expected next week.

The board will review the ongoing superintendent search to finally replace Lorenzo Garcia, who pleaded guilty last June on federal charges related to the scandal.
