El Paso, TX (KDBC) — Residents of the Chamizal neighborhood in South-Central El Paso will soon have a renovated park and a brand new community garden.
The Chamizal Community Garden will be built on a vacant lot at 3210 Findley Avenue. The 4,800-square-foot community garden will include shared garden beds, benches, picnic tables, landscaping, solar lighting, irrigation, and wrought iron gates and fencing. The project’s construction budget is $67,107.83.
Just a few blocks away, crews will soon begin renovating El Barrio Park on the northeast corner of Findley and Raynor. Work includes the installation of new playground equipment, resurfacing the basketball court, and adding wrought iron gates and fences. The project’s construction budget is $160,649.
Work on both projects is funded by federal Community Development Block Grants (CDBG). Construction activities will begin this month and are expected to be completed by August 2014.
The City of El Paso’s Engineering and Construction Management Department, which will oversee the work, will host a community meeting to let residents know what to expect during construction on Monday, May 12, 2014, at 6pm at El Barrio Park.
