El Paso, Texas (KDBC) — Construction work is getting restarted on the Spur 1966, after a fatal crash that killed two Texas Dept. of Transportation contract workers last month.
The eastbound lane of Schuster Dr. Will be closed from Sun Bowl Dr. to Prospect Ave. Monday through Friday, June 6, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
TxDOT is bringing in extra police officers and placing orange barriers filled with water at each entrance and exit of construction to avoid a crash like the one that killed two construction workers May 11th.
Police still have not released the accident report detailing how 18-year-old Michael Nieves allegedly got past several construction barriers and patrol cars, ultimately hitting and killing two constructions workers who were helping install beams on the overpass bridge of the Spur 1966 project.
Nieves is charged with two counts of intoxicated manslaughter.
