AUSTIN, TX — Should the dairy farming industry return to El Paso county? One state representative thinks so.
State Rep. Mary González introduced House Bills 1080 and 1081 to the House Agriculture and Livestock Committee Wednesday.
HB 1080 removes restrictions on dairy farming within the county limits.
HB 1081 will require an updated study on the impact farming will have in the county to include the fiscal impact.
"My dairy farm legislation has received a large amount of local, statewide, and even national attention. I believe this has happened because there is not enough evidence to prove otherwise for this industry not to be here. Bringing dairy back to El Paso would enable our local farmers to diversify crops, and put the agricultural talents in our community to use," said González.
