El Paso, TX (KDBC) — The intoxication manslaughter trial of El Paso businessman Billy Abraham continued despite the defense's attempts to call for a mistrial not once, but twice Thursday.
The defense argued that the prosecution was trying to shift the burden of proof onto them, but the judge denied the motion.
The jury also heard from Dr. Angel Rodriguez, a psychiatrist who is being paid by the defense team. Rodriguez was hired to review the files of victim Jay Grady.
The doctor diagnosed Grady with clinical depression and may have been suicidal. Abraham is accused of running over Jay Grady in downtown El Paso then driving off, leading authorities on a low-speed chase back on July 20, 2010.
Closing arguments will start Friday morning.
