Horizon City, Texas (KDBC) — Residents in the El Paso Hills area near Horizon City are on high alert after learning their drinking water may be contaminated with e-coli. A sample taken yesterday by the Horizon Regional Municipal Utility District tested positive for the bacteria. Some residents received a letter Wednesday notifying them of the discovery, and advising that they not drink the water until more tests can be conducted.
The city is confidant the problem will be fixed within the next 24 to 48 hours, but exactly how the water become contaminated is unknown.
"I have a six month old in the house and young children and boys going to football practice and my big concern is simple, that we've been drinking contaminated water for the past 24 hours," said Brandon Kovach, a resident of Horizon City.
Kovach says he's also upset because he wasn't notified about the E.coli, and had to find out from a website. The Horizon Regional Municipal Utility District could not be reached for comment Wednesday evening.
