EL PASO — During a 156-man hour stint between May 21 and June 3, officers yielded a total of 926 citations while enforcing TXDOT's Click-it-or-Ticket campaign. Of the nearly 1,000 tickets issued, 296 were written for adult seat belt citation, and 134 were signed off for child seatbelt citations.
Although the campaign targeted safety belt violations, Officers also responded to calls for service and issued other citations for traffic violations. It only takes a few minutes to strap on a seatbelt with the end result of saving a life. This Memorial Day enforcement wants to ensure all motorists buckle up.
Traffic crashes remain a leading cause of death in Texas. In 2011, nearly 3,000 people died in fatal collisions on Texas streets and highways. Almost half of those drivers and passengers were not buckled up. Wearing a seat belt reduces the risk of fatal injury by 45 percent for car occupants and 60 percent for light-truck occupants.
