Friday, June 8, 2012 - 2:59pm

DOÑA ANA COUNTY — A proclamation will designate June 23 as D. Kent Evans Day in Doña Ana County. The former county commissioner died on May 29. The event is on the county's June 12 agenda.

The date commemorates Evans' 50th wedding anniversary, and is the date his family chose for memorial services.

Evans was twice elected to represent District 4, in 2000 and 2004. He was chairman of the commission in 2002 and 2008, and he represented Doña Ana County on numerous statewide boards and committees.

“While we mourn our colleague and send our collective sympathy to his family, we also honor a remarkable man with a sterling record of public service,” said Commission Chairwoman Karen G. Perez.

The June 12 meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the Commission Chambers of the Doña Ana County Government Center. The Evans family has been invited to attend.
