Nanny Faces Charges for Child Abandonment

EL PASO — A woman was jailed after allegedly leaving three children under her care alone at an apartment. The children, aged 3, 4 and 5, were said to be by themselves for more than an hour. A neighbor alerted Sheriff's Deputies to the Canutillo apartments after finding the 5-year-old wandering by herself arounf 4:30 in the morning.

Twenty eight-year-old Susana Soto, the nanny in question, was located a couple of hours later during a separate 911 call in reference to a child custody dispute. When the deputy arrived to the location, Soto was identified as the nanny who reportedly abandoned the three children, and was unable to provide a reasonable explanatin for leaving the children unattended.

Soto was arrested on three counts of abandoning a child. Sheriff’s Deputies made arrangements with the parents of the children and released the children to a responsible party. One of the three children was Soto's daughter.
