The New Mexico State women's tennis team travels to El Paso to battle I-10 Rival UTEP, in the rivals' annual matchup at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the El Paso Tennis Club.
The Aggies (6-4) have won four of their last five matches after a 7-0 downfall to No. 43 Fresno State at home last weekend. The Miners (2-11) are riding a three-match losing streak following 4-3 home loss to Idaho on March 2.
Last season, UTEP won 4-3 for the second straight time in Las Cruces. The Miners won by the same score in 2007. The teams' matchup in 2009 at NM State was canceled due to high winds.
The Aggies have won three straight matches in El Paso, dating back to 2006. In 2010, NM State posted a 6-1 win. The Aggies won by a 5-2 margin in both 2008 and 2006 at UTEP.
Since 2003, NM State has won seven of the last 10 matches in the all-time series.
Aggie senior co-captain Natalia Salum stands at 8-1 in singles this season. Fellow co-captain Manon Sylvain is 4-4 for the Aggies at the No. 1 position this season.
Sylvain is ranked No. 17 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Mountain Regional rankings.
Martina Trierweiler plays No. 1 singles for the Miners and carries a 2-10 record this season. Rebeca Calvillo is 6-5 at the No. 2 singles slot. Calvillo and Trierweiler are 4-7 together as the No. 1 UTEP doubles tandem this season.
