LAS CRUCES, N.M. — A Las Cruces man was arrested by Las Cruces police after they say he physically assaulted his girlfriend on Monday, and strangled her with a cord.

LCPD was called out to the couple's apartment before 6:00 P.M. on Monday after the woman called for help.

Police said that the couple had been arguing earlier in the day when Leath became physically aggressive. Detectives said Leeth hit the victim several times and then used a wire cord to strangle the woman until she became unconscious.

The victim's injuries were serious but not life-threatening. Leeth left the apartment and was found later that evening by police officers.

He was arrested and is being held on a $200,000 bond at the Doña Ana County Detention Center. Leeth is charged with two counts of aggravated battery against a household membercausing great bodily harm.
