UTEP Men's Golf Team Finishes 16th in First Tournament of Season

The UTEP men's golf team picked up a 16th-place finish at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite on Monday in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Miners posted a team score of 897 with rounds of 304, 291 and 302 at the 19-team event.

Leading UTEP was junior David Persons, who carded a four-over-par 220 (77-71-72) to tie for 35th place. Luke Ovenden tied for 51st place (72-75-76-223), Jere Pelletier tied for 76th place (78-71-79-228), Jerry Castrellon tied for 83rd place (78-74-78-230) and Devin Miertschin tied for 88th place (77-78-76-231).

The Miners will return to action at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Albuquerque.
