EL PASO — An employee of the El Diario de Juarez newspaper has been reported missing.
Relatives of Victor Javier Campos, 30, said they have not seen him since he left for work Thursday afternoon. Campos reportedly got on a bus, but never reported to work.
According to El Diario de Juarez, Campos worked in the production department of the newspaper and had been an employee since 2002.
On Wednesday, just one day before, the El Diario de Juarez building where Campos worked came under fire. Gunmen fired at least seven shots into the front of the building. Surveillance cameras caught a grey van speeding away from the scene. The television station, Channel 44 News was alsO attacked the same day.
Officials have not confirmed if the shootings are related, nor if they are connected to Campos who is now missing.
Since the start of the drug war, two employees of El Diario de Juarez have died. Veteran reporter Armando Rodriguez was murdered while on assignment, and photography intern Luis Carlos-Santiago was gunned down in a parking lot.
El Diario de Juarez also has an affiliate in El Paso, Texas, El Diario de El Paso. Those offices have not come under fire.
