An El Paso man has been arrested and charged with making and distributing cocaine.

Officers said they were on patrol in the 8100 block of St. Andrew when they smelled a strong odor of burning marijuana coming from the parking lot. Officers checking the area saw Richard Gutierrez hiding between two vehicles in the parking lot. Gutierrez allegedly discarded four baggies of cocaine and a small black case that he was holding as the officer approached. Police say the black case contained eleven more baggies of individually wrapped cocaine.

The total weight of all fifteen individually wrapped baggies of cocaine came to 6.7 grams.

Gutierrez was placed under arrest and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a bond of $30,000.00.
