EL PASO (KDBC) — El Paso picked Oscar Leeser as the city's new mayor.
It's was a huge celebration at his watch party at The Camino Real in the heart of downtown El Paso where hundreds of Leeser supporters watched the results come throughout the night.
Months and months of campaigning have paid off for the long-time businessman turned politician.
“The people wanted a change and there were some key issues when we went door-to-door that they talked about… the ballpark,” said Leeser.
The ballpark has been a hot topic in El Paso for nearly a year.
“We need to promote it. We need to make sure it works. It’s here and we’ve spent a lot of money on it and the most important part of that is that we need to make sure we all rally behind it because it’s important that we do make it because we all have money invested in it,” said Leeser.
In the next four years, Leeser said his main goal is to bring jobs to El Paso.
“We have a lot of great people. We have a lot to offer in our city and we need to make sure we take advantage of that,” said Leeser.
Mayor John Cook stopped by Leeser’s watch party and he said he plans to meet with Leeser next week and he will help him make it a smooth transition.
Leeser will be sworn in on June 24.
