An elderly man has died as a result of injuries he sustained in a Lower Valley crash last Wednesday morning.

EPPD says that 91-year-old Vicente Barraza was exiting a private business driveway and did not yield to oncoming traffic on Delta when his 1998 Toyota Corolla was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by 18-year-old Jose Diaz of Albuquerque, NM.

When patrol officers arrived to the scene, Barraza was conscious and showed no signs of having life-threatening injuries. He was transported to University Medical Center for precaution, where hospital staff later discovered Barraza had sustained significant head and brain injuries. The Medical Examiner's Office later contacted EPPD to notify them of Barraza's death due to injuries sustained in the crash.

Diaz was not injured in the crash, and EPPD say no charges are pending in this case.
