EPPD: April stabbing turns deadly, man charged with murder

El Paso Police arrested a 50-year-old man Tuesday after an altercation in April turned deadly. Around 3:00 pm, Wednesday, April 2, EPPD were called to the scene of a stabbing in an alley behind a Family Dollar Store in the 5000 block of Alameda in El Paso's Lower Valley.

When they arrived at the scene, they found 46-year-old Arturto Villareal stabbed in the abdomen. Villareal taken to nearby University Medical Center with injuries that were initially reported as non-life threatening.

During the course of the investigation, EPPD learned that Villareal had gotten into a fight with 50-year-old Paul Lomeli Jimenez when the argument escalated and Jimenez allegedly stabbed Villareal in the abdomen twice.

Villareal died as a result of his injuries on Saturday, May 3, 2014. EPPD's Crimes Against Person's Detectives were able to identify Jimenez as the alleged stabber, and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Jimenez was arrested and charged with murder Tuesday. His bond has been set at $1 million.

This case becomes El Paso's sixth murder of 2014 compared to four at this time last year.
