Exploreum Museum moves temporarily

Wednesday, January 30, 2013 - 2:45pm

EL PASO — The El Paso Exploreum opened its doors this past weekend to a record-setting, enthusiastic audience, museum employees said, however a short, temporary relocation will be necessary.

The relocation will continue through Feb. 9, as the museum will temporarliy be housed in the former Lynx Exhibits building next door at 300 W. San Antonio Ave. Museum officials said the relocation is needed to give the museum’s founders time to replace several interior walls which contractors mistakenly built with wooden studs rather than with metal studs as required by city ordinance.

“We were so warmly received by the community that we want to continue the enthusiasm for the Exploreum,” said Laurie Paternoster, museum co-founder. “We are saddened that our museum was not 100 percent ready, but are making every effort to make sure the new building is perfect.”

Visitors coming to the Exploreum at Lynx Exhibits will have an extra treat – a free simulator experience. With the Feb. 9 reopening, normal hours of operation resume: Mondays through Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays noon until 6 p.m, with the last admission is an hour before closing.
Supporters may stay informed of developments by “liking” the El Paso Exploreum Facebook page, e-mailing and asking to be added to the Exploreum e-mail contact list, visiting the or calling 533-4330.
