Flooding possible in El Paso, Las Cruces

Flash flood watches are in effect

Monday, September 9, 2013 - 4:34pm

El Paso County is under a flash flood watch that will last until 6:00 a.m. Thursday. The area is expecting a 20% chance of rain this afternoon and our chances double by midnight bringing us isolated thunderstoms into the area.

Socorro and Fabens will be impacted first Monday afternoon as the storm cells make their way toward the Sun City. We are expecting any where from 1-3 inches of rain Monday, and our moisture will continue to stick around until Thursday morning.

Residents are encouraged to be prepared.

El Paso Water Utilities has several sandbag distribution sites:
* Northeast Stormwater Operations Center - 4801 Fred Wilson
* West Keystone Heritage Park - 120 Kappa Road;
* Central Street Wastewater Treatment Plant 913 S. Boone St.;
* East Album Park; Mission Valley Blackie Chesher Park
9292 Escobar Drive.
All locations open until 8 p.m.

Residents in Las Cruces can also expect some showers. Southern New Mexico is also under a flash flood watch. That watch is in effect until Wednesday at 6 p.m.
