Ft. Bliss soldier killed in Central El Paso car crash

UPDATE: Fort Bliss Major Joseph Buccino confirmed that the passenger killed in Saturday night's two car collision is a Fort Bliss soldier.

According to El Paso Police, a Ford F-150 was traveling west on I-10 and was exiting at the Paisano ramp when it slammed into the driver side of a Ford Ranger.  The F-150 spun out of control, then hit a barricade and landed on its side.

The Ft. Bliss soldier who was a passenger in the F-150 was partially ejected and died at the scene.  Police said he was not wearing a seat belt.

Major Buccino also confirmed that the driver of the F-150 is also a Ft. Bliss soldier.  Major Buccino released the following statement regarding the crash:

"This was a preventable soldier death. We are deeply saddened by  his death, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and fellow soldiers."

Police have not released the name of the soldier who died.  Major Buccino said he was married with two children.

ORIGINAL STORY:

A man died after an accident in Central El Paso Saturday night.

Witnesses called 911 after two cars collided on I-10 west and Paisano at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police said a 2001 Ford F-150 tried to take the Paisano exit ramp when the truck hit the driver’s side of a Ford Ranger.

The F-150 spun out of control, hit a barricade and ended on its side. Police said the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected from the truck. He died at the scene.

Police said alcohol is believed to be a factor.

The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

This is the 3rd traffic death of 2013.
