El Paso, TX (KTSM) — Early voting began today in Texas.
This election is the first where Texas voters will need to follow the state’s voter ID laws when they cast their vote.
A new website – www.GotIDTexas.org – is making it easy for voters to know what they need to vote, how to get it, and where they can vote this Election Day.
“Voting is our right, and we want everyone to know what they need to vote,” said Phillip Martin, Deputy Director for Progress Texas.
For over a month, dozens of civic engagement groups across Texas have made phone calls, knocked on doors, and alerted their membership about what is required of the new voter ID law.
The mobile-friendly site has received over 10,000 hits before voting even started, and contains information in English and in Spanish.
The site was built by the Texas Research Institute and Progress Texas, and is a project of Empower the Vote Texas, the Texas Civic Engagement Table, and the Got ID Texas coalition.
