El Paso County commissioners have agreed to spend $250,000 to help decide the fate of the downtown jail.

An outside firm will be hired to conduct a jail feasibility study to determine whether the county needs to fix or repair the facility.

The overall goal is to try and save taxpayers money by reducing operating costs at the jail.

County Commissioner Vince Perez recently conducted a study which he says proves El Paso's jail system is the most expensive in Texas.
