The White House announced a new option for Americans who had their insurance plans canceled as a result of Obamacare. Americans with canceled policies will now be allowed to buy catastrophic coverage under a hardship exemption.

Some republicans immediately criticized the move, calling it a slap in the face to those who had already replaced their plans with more expensive options. Lobbyists for the Insurance Industry were also quick on the attack, saying the new option would only create more confusion.

In making the announcement, the White House noted that less than 500-thousand people had lost their plans, far fewer than the millions predicted by critics of the Health Care Law.
