House fire displaces family of five

Tuesday, March 19, 2013 - 10:33pm

A house in Northeast El Paso went up in flames Tuesday.

It happened in the 8800 block of Mt. Elbert Drive just after noon.

When fire crews arrived on the scene, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the front window of the house.

The fire reportedly started in one of the bedrooms.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The house is divided into two residences and luckily, no one was injured on either side.

The side that had the fire is uninhabitable.

The other side is unaffected and that resident will probably be okay to live there, according to fire officials on the scene.

Damages are estimated between 20 to $25,000.

The Red Cross is assisting the family of five with a place to stay.
