Slightly more Americans filed for jobless benefits last week. The government reports about 308-thousand people filed initial claims for unemployment benefits last week, that's up one-thousand from the week before.
The overall initial claims figure remains near its lowest level since 2007, an encouraging sign that layoffs are back to pre-recession levels. The data does not yet include the impact of the government shutdown.
