A Colorado judge has accepted a not guilty by reason of insanity plea from the suspect in the Aurora movie theater massacre.
James Holmes is accused of killing 12 moviegoers and wounding dozens more in the July 2012 rampage.
Holmes' previous not-guilty plea had been entered by a judge on his behalf in March, over his objection.
The defendant had offered to plead guilty and spend the rest of his life behind bars if authorities would spare his life, but prosecutors announced in April they would seek the death penalty.
