It's easy to assume that Justin Timberlake's wife, Jessica Biel, could have served as inspiration for the singer's newest love song, "Mirrors." But when it comes to the track's music video, 32-year-old Timberlake went old-school.
The beginning of the clip, which runs just over 8 minutes in length, opens with a dedication to "William and Sadie," who are his grandparents, MTV reports.
The video, in essence, is a retelling of their love story, as it flashes back between a retro romance that isn't without its hardships and an elderly couple reflecting on their past.
But appearances in the contemporary portions of the video are a bit deceiving - as MTV notes, it appears that those scenes also depict a grieving widow. Timberlake's grandfather reportedly passed late last year.
Giving more insight into the song itself, Timberlake explains on his website that it's about "someone that you feel like is your sort of other half," rather than specifically about looking into a mirror.
"I think one of the most valuable things in a relationship is being able to constantly change and be [an] individual, but [still be able to] look to the other side of that relationship, that person that you're with, and know that they're changing as well ... but somehow you two can mirror each other."
More than one person has mentioned to the "20/20 Experience" artist that "Mirrors" could serve as a good wedding song, and it's an idea Timberlake approves of.
"I find that interesting, too, that in wedding vows you say 'I do,' when I feel like what you should say is 'I will,'" he went on. "A relationship, when it's working, is constantly evolving. You want to know that that person that you're with is evolving with you. To know that the other half of that special part of your life is mirroring you, but also being an individual in their own is really what the song is about."
