Hundreds of last minute holiday shoppers in Las Cruces decided to shop local at the Farmers and Crafts Market Christmas Eve.

The market open Wednesdays and Saturdays, but with the holidays management decided to open Tuesday.

"When you give someone something this year and it comes from the market, it comes from Dona Ana County and from New Mexico," said Market Manager Duane Mosely.

Mosely said opening on Christmas Eve provides an extra opportunity for local vendors to sell their products.

Most of the vendors use the market as the only venue to sell their goods.

"The money that's spent here, stays here," Mosely said.

More than a hundred vendors lined Main Street selling a variety of products ranging from pistachios and pecans, to biscochos from Osito's Biscochito's that go well with a cup of Beck's Coffee.

The market of course features local arts and crafts mixed with all sorts of jewelry.

"I've bought some earrings and I got a shirt for myself," said Daya Bruce who admitted to buying more stuff for herself than family.

Bruce, who was visiting from Virginia, also took part in the holiday fun taking a photo with Santa.

Jolly Ol' Saint Nick was one of the main attractions delighting dozens of children who were more than happy to share what's on their wish lists.

The market will be closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day but will be open on Saturdays.
