Las Cruces Police arrested a man who is suspected of threatening a woman with a handgun.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Friday, May 9, LCPD were called to a home in the 300 block of Three Crosses Ave. after being called on a report of a man threatening people with a gun.

When LCPD officers arrived, they located a man, who was later identified as Jessie Roman, 20, who discarded a black handgun as he tried to flee officers. Roman was captured by officers after a short foot pursuit.

Detectives learned that Roman got into a fight with a man outside a mobile home and after the man's girlfriend tried to ask Roman to leave, he allegedly pulled out a handgun, pointed it at her face and threatened to shoot her.

The woman pulled a baseball bat out of her car and tried to knock the handgun out of Roman's hand.

LCPD Detectives were able to determine that the handgun Roman was carrying was actually a pellet gun that resembles a revolver.

Roman was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, tampering with evidence, and resisting or evading an officer. His bond was set at $5,000.
