Las Cruces, NM (KDBC) — A Las Cruces man is awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of twelve counts of First Degree Criminal Penetration of a Child Under the Age of 13 on Friday, November 8.
Jorge Bernando Huerta-Castro, 30, was found guilty after jurors deliberated for just three hours in Judge Macias' courtroom on Friday.
Jacinto Palomino, Chief Deputy District Attorney and Cynthia Clark, Assistant District Attorney represented the State of New Mexico in this case. "Although the damage to the victim's in this case is substantial, it is our hope that this is the first step in a very long recovery process for the family" said Clark.
The family of the victims stated that they were very pleased with the hard work of the District Attorney's Office and the dedication of the staff to seeing this case to its conclusion.
Huerta-Castro faces a mandatory eighteen years per count in prison. He was returned to the custody of the Dona Ana County Detention Center awaiting sentencing.
