LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The first New Year's baby in Las Cruces was born just minutes into the new year at Mountain View Regional Medical Center.
Dominic Jairo Castillo was born at 12:10 in the morning and weighed six pounds and 15 ounces.
"I thought it was going to be a little bit before or a lot after, but never at 12pm or that close to 12pm," said Kimberly Castillo, mother of the first New Year's baby in Las Cruces.
The Castillo's plan on letting their third child know how special his birth was when he gets older.
Baby Dominic's father Javier Castillo hopes his son will follow in his footsteps and root for his Miami Dolphins.
Castillo said it was an exciting day for him and his family.
"It's special like the first and second sons that we had," Castillo said. "Very special, very blessed to have him here and this healthy."
The proud parents said the hospital staff was extremely excited and gave the couple a gift basket filled with baby supplies.
