Las Cruces police officer attacked

Wednesday, February 27, 2013 - 6:28pm

Two brothers are behind bars, accused of attacking a Las Cruces police officer. Police say they got a call Sunday night that two men were throwing beer bottles at each other on Tornillo Street. An officer responded. Thirty year-old Rafael Torres took off running. The officer caught up with him, but police say 26 year-old Israel Torres then started punching the officer. Both were finally arrested after the officer deployed his taser. The pair is charged with battery of a peace officer and with evading arrest. The officer suffered minor injuries.
