Las Cruces, NM (KDBC) — Hundreds of teachers rallied outside the Las Cruces Public Schools administration building tonight to protest the state's new teacher evaluation program.
The system rates schools based upon standardized test scores, and teachers say it's hurting educators rather than helping students, leaving them little or no time to actually teach.
Similar rallies were held in Carlsbad, Hobbs, Roswell, and Santa Fe.
The Martinez administration implemented a performance-based evaluation system in the current school year after failing to win approval of its proposals in the Democratic-controlled Legislature.
