Local Inventors Develop Unique Car Jack

EL PASO - Local inventors of the Traction Jack are hoping their versatile car jack will be made available to more people.

The jack consists of two steel plates with a removable center mechanism that lifts the car. The jack is designed to get vehicles out of sand or mud, but can also be used at home.

The idea for the jack came as a result of two friends continually getting stuck in sand while off-roading.

"We got stuck plenty of times and all we had to get out was logs, cardboard and stuff like that. So we sat down and decided that there had to be a better way," said Jeffrey Brown who co-invented the Traction Jack.

He and his friend Carlos Amaro were both sophomores at Hanks High School when they began developing the jack. Brown and Amaro have been hard at work for three years perfecting their invention. According to the inventors, the Traction Jack already has six patents and they are working on a seventh.

The only thing thing that has the inventors spinning their wheels is funding. They have already invested $14,000 to get their idea off the ground. Brown said they are looking for money to secure a manufacturer and tweak the design a bit.

They already have orders for the jack and hope to start filling those as early as March.
