El Paso, TX (KDBC) — A local school bus driver saves a student's life and is now being hailed a hero by the school district.
Alberto Vasquez drives a bus for the Clint Independent School District.
Back in October, during a routine bus ride on the way home from school, a student on Vasquez's bus started choking on a piece of candy.
Vasquez jumped into action and performed the Heimlich maneuver on the boy and was able to get him breathing again.
The bus driver says the boy's family has been incredibly thankful to him for saving their son's life, but he says he was just in the right place at the right time.
"I think I did what anybody or any human being would have done in a time of need," said Vasquez.
He says he has worked as a school bus driver for 8 years now and has never experienced anything like this before.
