Loma Heights Elementary School set for partital demolition Monday

Sunday, June 30, 2013 - 6:57pm

Part of Loma Heights Elementary School in Las Cruces will be torn down Monday morning as a part of a multi-phase reconstruction project.

ESA Construction will tear down one of the original buildings from 1966 with a tractor starting from the southeast side of the school to the north.

"It's basically going to be a brand new school," said ESA Construction Project Manager Eric Clifton.

The contractor has already gutted the building, removing windows and other debris and it has also been inspected for asbestos.

Clifton said they will take the necessary precautions to make sure dust does not spread into surrounding neighborhoods.

ESA crews are already working on the foundation for new cafeteria and kitchen.

They are also doing roof work and framing on another building already constructed.

The school will also feature a new parking lot with added sidewalks along Madrid Road.

The entire 15,050,588 project is scheduled for completion in March of next year.

Demolition will begin at 9 a.m. at 1600 Madrid Road.
