A handful of officers, volunteers, and families attended a memorial to honor fallen police officers from the El Paso Police Dept. at Chuck Heinrich Park.

More than a dozen chairs with covers bearing the faces of each officer killed lined the pathway leading up to the memorial.

One sergeant who plays 'Taps' at each funeral and service for the department spoke about what the memorial meant for him.

"It's a tribute. It's a thank you. It's a celebration of their lives and just remembering them for their ultimate sacrifice that they made," said Sgt. Jason Johnson.

Doña Ana County sheriff's deputies will also be remembering their fallen, beginning with a candlelight vigil Monday at 8 p.m. at 845 Motel Blvd.

Tuesday, a memorial procession will begin at 9 a.m. at the old K-Mart, 1240 S. El Paseo Rd., and will end at the Las Cruces Convention Center.

A memorial service will then follow at the convention center.
