El Paso, TX (KDBC) — Michael Herrera, 29, is scheduled to be in court Monday for the start of his murder trial. He is accused of beating, stabbing and killing Cesar Torres, 39, inside Torres' Downtown El Paso apartment in 2009.
According to investigators, the two friends were fighting inside the apartment. A neighbor later found Torres' body.
An autopsy determined Torres was stabbed to death, and also suffered severe injuries from the beating.
Investigators found Herrera's fingerprints at the scene and linked him to the murder.
Herrera was arrested days after the murder and has remained behind bars ever since.
If convicted, Herrera faces up to 99 years in prison.
