The namesake for Silva Magnet High School, Maxine Silva passed away Tuesday.
She's best known for spear-heading efforts to create Thomas Jefferson High School after World War II. At the time there were no schools nearby for students in east El Paso. She became the school's first principal.
She was 97 years old.
