New Jersey — He's struggled with his weight for years, now New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is doing something about it. He secretly underwent surgery to try and slim down. CNN has learned Christie had Lap-Band surgery in February. That's where doctors put a tube at the top of your stomach to make you feel full faster.
A source tells CNN that Christie went in for surgery on a Saturday and was back to work on Tuesday. The 50-year-old governor says he did it for the sake of his wife and kids. Christie told the New York Post it was about getting older and wanting to be there for his children.
The Post quotes sources who say he has shed nearly 40 pounds already. Christie says losing weight has nothing to do with a possible run for the White House in 2016.
