New York City Mayor using own money to keep pro-gun candidate out of office

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is putting up his own money to try and keep a pro-gun candidate out of office. His super PAC, Independence U-S-A, is dropping more than one million dollars in advertising against Debbie Halvorson, who is an Illinois Democrat running to replace former Congressman Jesse Jackson Junior.

Halvorson has an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association and opposes a renewed ban on assault weapons. The ad says that gun violence is "out of control" and "Debbie Halvorson will make it worse." Bloomberg, a leading voice in the gun control debate, started the super PAC last year. He also co-chairs "Mayors Against Illegal Guns."

The ad comes days before President Obama is scheduled to travel to Chicago Friday, where he's expected to address the city's gun violence
